When Missy Fox began the emotional journey of finding a retirement community for her mother, Joyce Segal, after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2012, Marjorie P. Lee (MPL) quickly stood out for its “homey, comfortable feeling.” Joyce settled in easily, initially able to live independently and even continued part-time work as an Executive Assistant, thanks to her supportive former employer. The only hurdle was transportation—until staff member Frank Uehlin stepped in. Their rides together became joyful routines, filled with friendly conversation. She lived each day with purpose.
Over the years, Joyce transitioned through higher levels of memory support care at MPL. At each step, Missy remained deeply grateful—not only for the compassionate care her mother received, but also for the staff who “took the time to make sure that I was doing OK, too.”
Missy found peace in knowing her mother had a forever home—even if she outlived her means. Fortunately, that wasn’t necessary. Among Joyce’s nest eggs was a meaningful inheritance: P&G stock she had received from her own mother, a former administrative assistant at the company, which Joyce later gifted to Missy upon her passing in 2018.
Now feeling fortunate to give back, Missy and her husband Brian have included Episcopal Retirement Services in their own estate plans. Missy’s gift is designated to support memory care at Marjorie P. Lee, ensuring that residents, families, and staff continue to benefit from Joyce’s legacy for years to come. “I believe so much in ERS,” Missy says. “I trust them to be good stewards of their resources.”
